My friends,
Our race for District H has been an exciting journey. Even though things did not go the way we hoped, I am so proud of the hard-fought, principled campaign we ran and what we’ve accomplished.
I couldn’t have done it without all of you who have shared a journey and a vision with me these past five months: from my dedicated and hardworking volunteers to the community organizers and neighborhood leaders whose support I earned; from those have so generously contributed to my campaign to my loving family and friends. I am truly humbled by the support and encouragement you’ve given me during this campaign.
Running this race—meeting thousands of new people, listening to them and sharing their concerns—has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. I am reminded of the quote from one of my political heroes that inspired me to run for City Council:
“It is not the critic who counts: not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles or where the doer of deeds could have done better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood, who strives valiantly, who errs and comes up short again and again, because there is no effort without error or shortcoming, but who knows the great enthusiasms, the great devotions, who spends himself for a worthy cause; who, at the best, knows, in the end, the triumph of high achievement, and who, at the worst, if he fails, at least he fails while daring greatly, so that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who knew neither victory nor defeat.” -Teddy Roosevelt
The campaign has ended, but my commitment to building a better District H for everyone will not. I believe that, with a commitment to listening to everyone and making everybody’s voice heard, our District has enormous potential for growth and prosperity. I urge you all to join me in pushing our ideas forward. I firmly believe that if we continue the incredible civic involvement we achieved during the campaign, we can accomplish great things for our District and for our City.
