Expanding Recycling & Green Initiatives
Dear Friend,
As I talk to residents across District H about the May 9 special election, I find that Democrats, Republicans and Independents share many common concerns. A great number of my fellow Houstonians are concerned about recent spikes in petty crime, rising electricity bills, and repairing our vital infrastructure.
I hear from voters across the district who care about environmental issues, too. Clean air and better recycling options should be enjoyed by everyone in Houston. As your City Council Member, I will push the City to do everything possible to make our air healthier and our skies cleaner, for the health of our children and the beauty of the places we live. I also want to share some news about an exciting new program going on right now in Houston to encourage recycling.
Houston recently launched an automated, single-stream recycling program to around 10,000 homes across the city. Some of the neighborhoods are right here in District H. Single-stream recycling makes recycling easier, requiring no sorting and only one recycling bin. So, if you live in East or West Lindale Park or the Old Sixth Ward please take advantage of your opportunity to help our City recycle as much as possible.
Everyone in Houston deserves this cutting-edge convenience. I will fight to get easy, automated recycling for ALL of District H.
For more information about the City’s automated recycling program, check out http://www.houstontx.gov/solidwaste/autorecycling/autorecyclingfaq.pdf or call 3-1-1.
Listening to you and working with you to get things done: that’s the kind of leadership you can expect from me on the Houston City Council.
Best,
Maverick
P.S. I hope to see you at the Houston Green Expo this weekend. I’ll be there checking out all sorts of new building materials, green vehicles, and great ways to save energy (and money!) at Reliant Park. It’s free and open to the public Saturday, April 18 and Sunday, April 19 from 10 AM to 5 PM. Check out www.gulfcoastgreen.org for more details.
